Marijuana in Montana: competing ballot issues for 2016

The Montana Attorney General’s Office on Monday approved the legal sufficiency of two ballot issues with competing goals regarding marijuana.

Initiative 176, sponsored by Billings businessman Steve Zabawa, would require that drugs which are illegal under federal law also be illegal under Montana law.

Constitutional Initiative 115 by Glendive resident Anthony Varriano to permit adults to purchase, consume, or possess limited amounts of marijuana also was approved for the ballot
