In late 2017, at least 8 women came forward with sexual assault allegations against Democrat US Senator Al Franken, but that didn’t stop Billings Democrat State Rep. Jessica Karjala from defending him.
Franken would eventually resign his seat in the US Senate over the allegations when a photo emerged of him grabbing the breasts of a sleeping women. In his resignation speech Franken took responsibility for his actions saying, “I’ve been trying to take responsibility by apologizing. And by apologizing to the people I’ve let down. And I’m going to work to regain their trust. I am going to be accountable,” he said. “I know I let a lot of people down. … Everyone counted on me to be a champion for women.”
According to Karjala the allegations agaisnt Franken and his ultimate resignation where engineered by Republicans. She even called on fellow Democrats to stop calling on Franken to resign.
