HELENA, Mont — Following Governor Steve Bullock’s veto of House Bills 262 and 246, Speaker of the House Austin Knudsen released the following statement:
“It’s disappointing that following a campaign in which Governor Bullock ran on his support for the Second Amendment that he would turn his back on Montanans so quickly by taking his veto stamp to these bills that protect our fundamental rights,” Knudsen stated.
HB 262, sponsored by Representative Bill Harris, would allow any law-abiding individual who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun without having to obtain a permit to do so and would have eliminated the “city limits” exception to the state’s permitless carry law.
HB 246, sponsored by Representative Randy Brodehl, would allow firearms to be stored in vehicles temporarily on post office property or inside a post office building.
